VINEYARDS

At the core of our winemaking is the belief that the wine must start with our footprints in the vineyard. We craft wines that connect seamlessly to the vineyard. Giving a true and honest expression of site.

Since returning to the Great Southern, Callum has taken charge of all viticulture and vineyard operations for Fervor Wines, collaborating directly alongside his father, Mike.

PORONGURUP
Planted in 1979 by the Megrady family on an ENE facing slope, below the granite forms of Gibraltar Rock and Agwin Peak. The site is a place of feeling, nothing short of ethereal. So, it makes sense that the Porongurup range is the most sacred site in this region to the Noongar people of the Great Southern. Known as Borongur, this ancient mountain range is home to their totems.

It’s a site that calls for you to breathe deeper.

Below your feet, you'll find a diverse mix of soils from gravelly loam to ironstone and of course granite. Every block has its own soil profile.

Looking past the slope of the blocks, you'll see the Stirling Ranges. Whether in sunshine, a dusting of snow or with a storm rolling over them, they are a spectacular sight.
This site provided the core of our Garlands Riesling and Shiraz from 2001 to 2004; with Mike maintaining for years it is one of the most incredible sites in the Great Southern.
To now have Callum working the site and continuing its history is a beautiful full-circle moment. We are so happy to be making wines from this incredible site, once more.

Gibraltar Rock Vineyard

ALBANY
Planted in 1982 by father and son, Bill and Rob Wignall, on a NS plateau, with a great moderating influence from the Southern Ocean and native bushland on either side. This is one of Western Australia's most Southern vineyards and one of the first commercial plantings of Pinot Noir in the Great Southern.

Their Pinot Noir gained cult-like status in the 1990’s and helped the variety gain popularity in Australia.

The opportunity arose in 2024 to take on the lease around the same time Callum moved back to the Great Southern from Victoria. We thought it would be the right fit for another father and son to take on the management of this vineyard.
Buckshot ironstone soils lie below all 12HAs of this dry-grown vineyard. We suppose its the age of the vines and what we have found to be a little microclimate that create such special fruit from this vineyard.

It should be a very boring site, its on a plateau, the soil isn’t all that exciting but, it makes great wine.

We have put so much work into this vineyard over the last few years and we’re really starting to see that pay off.

As a sort of through line, you can see the Porongurups from this vineyard. A distant connection between our two sites.
